Edgy by Susan Lawrence
I love knitting lace and I love symmetry. I also love knitting patterns that are adaptable to a wide range of different yarns. This design incorporates all these features and, as an added bonus, there’s no purling! But you’ll have to stay alert because the lace pattern I used for this design does not have a resting row.
The design incorporates a lace edging pattern worked in mirror images with an optional center panel. Version A is knit in a DK weight yarn with no center panel patterning. Version B is knit in a handpainted, fingering-weight yarn with a narrow center panel of ridged fagotting. Both versions are worked on a garter stitch ground so the finished scarf lies completely flat.
Want to use a finer yarn and make a wider scarf? No problem! Just add stitches to the center panel of Version B in increments of 3. Don’t like the center panel I used? No problem! Substitute any stitch pattern you like for the center panel in Version B or increase the number of stitches in the center of Version A and work them in garter stitch.
