Yarn

Dream in color Smooshy sock yarn (100% superfine Australian Merino superwash; 450 yards/100g grams): Color 05 Absolute Magenta (MC), 3 (3, 4, 5, 6) balls; Color  natural (CC), 1 (1, 1, 1, 1) ball. You only need a small amount of the contrast color for the lace collar so if you have a small ball of left over yarn in a suitable color you could use that instead.

Needles

US#3 (3.25 mm): 24” circular

Gauge

28 sts and 32 rows = 4” [10 cm] in St st after wet blocking.

Notions

Removable markers; waste yarn or stitch holders; safety pins; sewing pins; tapestry needle; 15 (16, 17, 18, 19, 19) 1/2” buttons

This pattern is worked in one piece up to the armhole before working the sleeves and then joining all the pieces together to decrease the raglan yoke.

The ribbed collar is then worked by picking up stitches from the V neck and the neckline. The lace collar is worked separately and then stitched into place after blocking.
It should be noted that like many deep reds and pinks that the yarn used in the sample bled when blocking – this is another reason for blocking the contrasting lace collar separately.

This should not be seen as a fault of the yarn, but rather a well known problem with dyeing these particular colors.
Please note that the instructions contain details that need to be worked at the same time, so read through the pattern completely before commencing.

With US#3 (3.25mm) circular needle and MC, CO 212 (240,268,296,324,352) sts.
Setup row (all sizes): work Row 1 of Lacey Rib Chart until last 2 sts, p2.

Work chart as set until work measures 7 (7, 7, 8, 8, 8)” from CO finishing with Row 2 of the chart.

Continue in St st until work measures 13 (14, 15, 16, 17, 17)” from CO

Divide for Raglans

K 48 (55, 60, 67, 72, 78) BO 10 (10, 14, 14, 20, 20) sts, k 96 (110, 120, 134, 140, 156)sts, BO 10 (10, 14, 14, 20, 20) sts, k to end.

Place all body sts on waste yarn or stitch holders while you make the sleeves.

Sleeves

CO 51 (53, 53, 58, 58, 65)sts using MC.
Setup row 1st, 4th, 5th & 6th size: Work row 1 of Lacey Rib Chart to last 2 sts, p2
Setup row 2nd & 3rd size: P1, work row 1 of Lacey Rib Chart to last 3 sts p3.
Work in pattern until work measures 7 (7, 7, 8, 8, 8)” from CO finishing with a row 2 of the Lacey Rib Chart. Continue in St st until work measures 16.5(17, 17.5, 18, 18.5, 18.5)”
AT THE SAME TIME
Increase 1 st on either side of the work every 10th (8th, 8th, 6th, 5th, 5th) row 13 (16, 17, 21, 25, 27) times incorporating these sts into the lacey rib pattern where applicable; 77 (85, 87, 100, 108, 119) sts. BO 5 (5, 7, 7, 10, 10) sts at the beg of the next 2 rows; 67 (75, 73, 86, 88, 99) sts. Place rem sts on a stitch holder until you are ready to join the parts for the yoke.

Joining the Yoke

Starting with the right front and RS facing k across right front sts, pm,work across sts of the first sleeve, making sure that you have the RS facing, pm, work across back sts, pm, work across sts of the second sleeve, pm, work sts from left front; 326 (370, 386, 440, 460, 510) sts.

Purl back across all sts.

Place a small piece of waste yarn or a safety pin at each edge to mark the beginning of the V neck decreases.

Row 1 (Raglan Dec and V Neck Dec Row): K1, ssk, *k to 3 sts bef m, k2tog, k1, slip marker, k1, ssk, rep from * 3 more times, knit until 3 sts rem, k2tog, k1; 10 sts dec’d.

Row 2: Purl to end

Row 3 (Raglan Dec Row): *K to 3 sts bef m, k2tog, k1, slip marker, k1, ssk, rep from * 3 more times, knit to end; 8 sts dec’d.

Row 4: Purl to end

Work the 4 rows above until 29 (31, 34, 37, 38, 40) raglan decreases have been completed; 66,(92, 80, 108, 118, 150) sts rem. Break yarn and slip these sts onto a stitch holder ready to start the ribbed collar.

Ribbed Collar

First size: With the WS facing start at the left front V neck marker, pick up 58 sts up left front, k across remaining sts from left front and left sleeve pm, k across back sts, pm, k across remaining sts from right front , pick up 58 sts down the right front to V neck marker.

All other sizes: With the WS facing start at the left front V neck marker, pick up 61 (66, 73, 77, 80) sts up left front, k across remaining sts from left front and left sleeve pm, k across 22 (25, 29, 30, 36) back sts, k2tog, cont across rem back sts, pm, k across rem sts , pick up 61 sts down the right front to V neck marker.

All sizes: Work collar in k5 p2 rib to last 5 sts, k5.

Cont in 5 x 2 rib until collar measures 1”.  On next RS row increase 1 st in each purl section between the 2 markers using a lifted purl increase (see our tutorial here for a mlip). Work until collar measures 2” work a further increase in the purl sections between the markers. Work until collar measures 3”. BO all sts.

Button Bands

With RS facing pick up 103 (110, 117, 124, 131, 131) sts up the edge of the right front
Work in K5, p2 rib to lat 5 sts k5.
Work 3 rows 5 x 2 rib
Buttonhole row. In each k5 section across row work a single st buttonhole as follows k2, yo, ssk, k1; 15 (16, 17, 18, 19, 19) buttonholes worked.
Work 4 more rows in 5 x 7 rib BO in pattern.

With RS facing pick up 103 (110, 117, 124, 131, 131) sts up the edge of the left front
Work in K5, p2 rib to last 5 sts k5.
Work 8 rows in 5 x 2 rib BO  in pattern.

Lace Collar

All sizes: Using CC, CO 13 sts. Work lace collar chart until collar measures the same length as the ribbed collar unstretched, finishing with a complete repeat of the chart. BO all sts.

Finishing

Block cardigan to measurements given in the schematic.
Block lace collar to 2” longer than the measurement of the ribbed collar.
Sew up the sleeve and underarm seams. Weave in ends.
Sew a button in the center of each K5 portion of the button band.
Pin the lace collar in place on top of the ribbed collar easing in the extra 2” of length around the back of the neck to ensure that the collar lays flat. Slip st into place using a length of the contrast color.
