winter giveaway

books!

It's been a fast and fun first year here at Knotions.  When we launched the announcement site on March 3rd we couldn't have dreamed of how wonderful a year we'd have.

As a thank you to all of you, we've put together a little giveaway.

Books

This has been quite a year for knitting books!  We've selected a few of our favorites from this year, as well as a couple classics:

  • 101 Stitches to Knit edited by Erika Knight- a lovely stitch dictionary presented on individual cards rather than bound together like a traditional book.  Each stitch features beautiful full-color photos as well as a chart.  We spotted at least a few that weren't in the Barbara Walkers or any of the other Harmony Guides too.
  • It Itches by Franklin Habit - Only a knitter could dream up these cartoons!  I plan to buy a copy for myself and frame a few of them in a triptych in my studio.
  • Sweater Design in Plain English by Maggie Righetti - Not just for designers, this classic is for anyone who wants to learn more about fitting handknits.
  • Color Style by Pam Allen and Ann Budd - A beautiful addition to the Style series, presenting modern designs using colorwork; stranded, intarsia, slip stitch and embroidery are all used. {read our review}
  • Knitted Lace of Estonia by Nancy Bush - Read about the history behind Estonian lace, and then choose from one of her 14 shawl designs; or choose to design your own using the Estonian Stitch Dictionary at the back -- all compiled in a way that only Nancy Bush can.
  • Knitter's Handbook by Montse Stanley - Every knitter's bookshelf should include this classic.  We couldn't possibly list everything that's in this book, but a few of the topics include the basics -- cast ons, increases and decreases; advanced techniques -- short rows, color knitting, beads; finishing -- grafting, blocking, seams and joins.  All techniques are accompanies by illustrations.
  • Mason-Dixon Knitting Outside the Lines by Kay Gardiner and Ann Shayne - The ladies are back with a follow-up to their funny and practical Mason-Dixon Knitting.  There's a little bit of everything in here -- garments, baby wear, accessories, and of course, a second dose of their signature warshrags.
